The Uintah County Heritage Museum (formerly known as the Uintah County Western Heritage Museum), previously located within Uintah County’s Western Park Complex, opened it’s doors June 29th, 1991. In 2014, the Museum celebrated its move to 155 E. Main Street in Vernal, Utah. The move has been exciting and given us an opportunity to become an interpretive museum.
In 1991 the museum celebrated its Grand Opening. Western Art Competition winners were announced; Valoy Eaton displayed a one-man art show; The Outlaw Trail Cowboy and Lawmen Association displayed outlaw and lawmen memorabilia and many local residents such as Esther Campbell, Henry & Ira Schaefermeyer, Harry AuMiller, Judy Weldon, among others, had pioneer artifacts on display. Now, almost 30 years later, the Heritage Museum is telling stories of the past, connecting them to the present, and projecting how even in the future we will be connected to the past. We thank all the families who have donated artifacts and helped us find stories to make them relevant to our time. The Museum is also the host to two quilt shows per year, several art shows that are curated by the artists, and two which are traveling art shows curated by the Utah Division of Arts and Museums. |
