'Uinta Basin' Spelling Rule:
Uinta Basin should always be spelled without the 'h', regardless of how it is used -- whether used by itself or used as part of a larger name! The spelling for Uinta Basin (without the 'h') was established by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names, a Federal agency in the 1800s, to be used when referring to geographic features. You will notice that there are a number of misuses of spelling in names where Uinta Basin is part of a larger name or when referring to the Uinta Basin itself. In these instances, the user either does not know the Uinta Basin spelling rule or they choose to ignore the rule and the correct official spelling -- Uinta Basin (without the 'h'). (More)
